I am learning everyday to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not to terrify me.

Today I wanted to discuss personal growth. As is usually the custom at the beginning of a new year, we reflect and set goals. For 2018 I wanted to do something a bit different by creating a vision board. I’ve seen vision boards gaining traction online as a self-actualisation tool. I first learned about the importance affirmations in my student athlete days, thanks to Coach Munya. He constantly emphasised of working towards tangible goals and self-reflection.
As an adult trying to find a place for myself in the world, I often fail. Yet I have to motivate myself whilst dealing with work, bills, and fitting in a life somewhere in between. I’ve realised that sometimes simply waking up every day and carrying on is a victory in itself.
My 2018 Vision Board
My vision board highlights; my career development, financial budgeting, travel, fitness, and well-being through yoga and meditation. I’ve also written down my goals, aspirations, and motivational quotes. The more I repeat, the more I believe. I affirm on days when I feel at my weakest, as that’s when it’s most important.
On my Facebook page I share a #MondayMotivation message weekly to hopefully help my followers conquer the challenges of the upcoming week. Like many people, I have insecurities and anxiety I struggle with daily. But I’ve learned to challenge myself to overcome my fears. When I do this, I often find my worries were all in my head. Even when do I fail, I try to learn from my failures, either I try again or have the wisdom to move on.
When I dare to be powerful, to use the strength of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

Life presents challenges, which I aim to turn into opportunities to grow. Like Beyonce, I’m making lemonade out of lemons 🐝🍋.
